OK, you may be scratching your head but it is true. I am Australian yes, and living here too, but I want to celebrate Thanksgiving this year. For a few reason actually. First, our dear friends (you know the ones that become surrogate family) and us often celebrate different celebrations from different cultures. Sometimes we just pick a country and do something from their traditional menu. These nights are always great, we make a huge flag for the tablecloth, play relevant music, decorate, you name it we give it a go. This year I really want to celebrate Thanksgiving, partly because I am looking forward to the food, but also because my family and our friend's have alot to be thankful for this year. Different to the actual meaning for Americans, but thankful all the same anyway.
So I need some help from any of you that are from the USA and do a great Thanksgiving. Can you give me the must have recipes, traditions, decorations and any know how I need to be armed with. I don't want this to be a mockery of sorts, I want authenticity as close as possible. I also want plenty of planning time as this is my first time.

I am Australian and live in Sydney but my husband and I celebrate Thanksgiving every year after living in the US for 5 years. Sharing Thanksgiving dinner with friends and family, and taking turns around the table to say what you are thankful for are a must. Turkey and pumpkin pie are the most obvious food choices, though there are many traditional recipes. I'd recommend you start at foodnetwork.com for some great Thanksgiving recipes and marthastewart.com for decorations and menus.
Turkey, of course! Mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, cranberries, come to mind.

Im on the Gold Coast & came across your post while trying (for the 1st time) to make an effort to celebrate thanksgiving for my husbands sake. He misses his friends and family, do you know of any organisations (ex pats etc) that may celebrate this?
Or can you give me any ideas on how you went about your celebrations - what you cooked or did so that I can follow suit... he really misses home
